I will view this movie at some point. What I mention here is, one of the better interviews of Frank Zappa which I read was compiled in a book by Bill Milkowski: "Rockers, Jazzbos & Visionaries" [1998: Billboard Books | ISBN 0-8230-7833-7].
ReplyDeleteThe interview originally appeared in _Good Times_ December 1981 issue. Perhaps Google has gotten around to digitizing that. In a reply to one of the queries, Frank Z. uttered, "We're looking at the prelude to the New Dark Ages here. If you know anything about history, the Dark Ages we're going into now is gonna make the first one look like a company picnic."
Can we toss Nostradamus into the rubbish bin and replace him with Frank Z.?
On my regular bookmark page, I mention a quote also from this interview which used to appear on my profile page on a sexpositive site {Unidentified there, but it was FetLife. It's not on there anymore, since FetLife has mostly died from the effects of COVID-19.} It was his answer to the query "What are some of the misconceptions that people have about you?"
“People find it hard to believe that anybody can really do the spectrum of stuff that I do, because most of the people they deal with are too one-dimensional or narrow-focused on just a certain field. They stay in that field and that's all they do. But I don't operate that way. I'm interested in different kinds of music, film work, computer editing, politics, and sociology, and I have pretty well-developed skills in all those areas. But I don't think it's possible for me to correct misconceptions about what I do. People prefer to believe what they think they already know, and to interfere with that is only going to confuse them.”
I put it on my profile because I felt it applied to me, but you would have to alter the areas of interest to beer, Japan, soccer, trains, visual erotica, the Internet, & cats.
